GOES TO AUSTRALIA

INVITATION

CULTURAL DAY

SPEECH

Invitation date : 15th February 2012

Dear Bambang Adi Pramono

On behalf of Lambton Public School we extend an invitation to you to visit our school as an artist in residence to participate in an approved Australian Government Special Program “Becoming Asia Literate: Grants to Schools Initiative.’ The National Asian Languages and Studies in Schools program aims to promote cultural and social experiences and develop knowledge in the community about our Asian neighbours. We see this as an excellent opportunity to strengthen the ties between Australia and Indonesia.

We understand this cultural and educational visit will be for a period of two months, commencing with your arrival on Friday March 9th and concluding with your departure on Saturday 5th of May.

During this time you will be timetabled to participate in the project "Building Bridges with Bali: A Cultural Adventure" at Lambton Public School and Stockton Public School and Newcastle Art Space. It is also anticipated that you will participate in events at local community venues.

Our expectations would be for you to:

• Support Lambton Public School specialist art and music teachers two days per week to teach an enrichment program that focuses on the arts, customs and culture of Balinese society.
• Support a trained teacher of Bahasa Indonesia in an ‘activities based’ language program for children.
• Participate in an Indonesian Cultural Day at Lambton Public School. Members of the Newcastle Indonesian community and wider Newcastle community will also be invited to participate in this event which will include performance, exhibition and “hands on’ activities.

You will be timetabled for two days of each week to work on art works for a group exhibition of your art works in April at the Newcastle Art Space, a community volunteer non profit run art gallery.

A tentative itinerary of school visits has been drafted but it is envisaged this may have a degree of flexibility.

Week 1 to Week 5
Monday : free day to work on art works for Exhibition at NAS in April
Tuesday : participate and join in art and music lessons with specialist teachers
Wednesday : participate and join in art and music lessons with specialist teachers
Thursday : participate and join in art and music lessons with specialist teachers
Friday : free day to work on art works for Exhibition at NAS in April
Saturday and Sunday : Free time to spend with host families and together with fellow Balinese artists and for visiting places of cultural interest in Australia to enhance your experience of Australian lifestyles.

The aim of the project is to promote cross cultural links between Australia and Bali through the language of the Arts. As a practising contemporary artist with traditional training and qualifications in art you meet the requirements of our project to demonstrate and share your traditional and contemporary skills with our school community and to engage with the wider Newcastle community.

It is understood that Lambton Public School as your sponsors will be responsible for covering the costs and providing the services as follows. This will be organised by Lambton Public School with funds coming from the Asia Literate Grant and funds raised by Lambton Public School and Stockton Public School communities.

The costs and service covered will include:
• Visa costs
• Passport costs
• International Flight Bali to Sydney and return
• Transport from Sydney airport to Newcastle.
• Travel and Medical Insurance
• Medical check up and X ray
• Accommodation including meals.
• A weekly allowance
• Transport costs to and from schools and any additional transport costs

The following teachers at Lambton Public School and Stockton Public School have offered accommodation for your period of stay.

Yours sincerely
